As far back as the 1800’s Harvard used a letterman sweater with an Old English H sewn on the front. Around 1930, the letterman jacket as we know it today began to take shape. Some schools provide chenille varsity letters while others add one or more varsity patches as an award for recognition. Many of these letterman jackets and patches are provide in a group order. 4 My Jacket designs and creates custom letterman patches for all sports, organizations, and needs allowing individuals or groups to further decorate their letterman jacket to tell their story and show their achievements. Chenille letter patches such as baseball, basketball, football, track, lamp of knowledge, and many other shapes are made in a standard 4” dimension for application to the sleeve using a sewn zig zag stitch. This stitch style prevents the edges from rolling up over time while providing a much more finished look.
Our custom chenille patches for varsity jackets are tailored to meet your needs as each patch is created just for you. We do not stock patches because there are over 16 different scrim felt colors that can be mixed and matched to best coordinate with your letterman jacket, bomber, or other apparel. Given that 4 My Jacket makes these custom chenille patches to your specific and unique needs, our minimum is a single piece any day of the week 365. Need more? We can make more as well. Just let us know what your needs are as these patches are tailored to tell the “story about you!”
Most all of our patches are made on two pieces of scrim felt with the bottom color generally matching the sleeve of the letterman jacket if the placement belongs on the sleeve or if going on the varsity jacket body, then matching that color. The next piece of material generally matches the chenille color. Most all of these patches have an outline stitch that matches the bottom material color or a contrasting color and is sewn in a chain stitch. Alternately, the chain stitch can be replaced with a satin embroidery stitch.
Patches that require lettering generally are sewn with block letters although some like the look and style of script lettering. All wording or graphic inserts such as service bars, sports balls, symbols, or text can be sewn in a matching or contrasting color. These inserts can either be sewn directly on top of the chenille stitch or the chenille can be sewn around these elements so they appear to be set in. It’s your choice based on the desired look.
The listing shown are some, but not all, of the designs that we have ready for your unique letterman patch. A picture of another unique patch, your sketch, or a picture of the style unique to your organization generally can be reproduced so that they are a close match where a school or organization has a standard in place that must be maintained. If pictures are taken, please refer to our page that explains how to take these pictures as this will allow us to recreate your desired varsity patches with much greater accuracy.
